Bonnie Tyler is queen of the shower power ballad
A 1980s diva is giving top artists like Justin Bieber and Robbie Williams a run for their money, but it's for something quite unusual. Total Eclipse of the Heart, by the queen of the power ballad Bonnie Tyler, beat hits by Bieber and Williams to top spot as the song most people like to sing in the shower.
But what does the songstress think about the honour?
"It's great, all those naked bodies, fabulous, funny enough it's the number one karaoke song as well. I don't know why; it's not an easy song to sing," Tyler told eNCA on a recent visit to South Africa.
It is the pop diva's third visit to the country, and she's wowing fans nationwide with her still-husky voice.
"Twenty years ago was the last time, I hoped to come back sooner. Look at this, a lot of things have changed for the better, it's just beautiful. I think Cape Town is my favourite place."
Tyler said that she would be performing new work as well as her popular hits.
"I'll be doing the old songs and the new songs; because most people want to hear old classics and they sing along, I know they'll have a great time."
And the secret to her youthful appearance?
"I never ever thought I'd still be singing at 62 you know, but thank God for botox. It doesn't keep you younger, just makes you look smoother."
Tyler has performed in Johannesburg and Bloemfontein. Cape Town fans will get a chance to sing along this weekend.
